 The Gingerbread Man

the best in-house show we have ever had

Assistant head Teacher, Brent Knoll SEND School

It was a pleasure to see the delight and wonder on the children's faces as they watched and joined in with the performance not to mention to hear them giggle with joy. Our children are very rarely given the opportunity to visit a theatre and see stage performances so this has really supported to build on their cultural capital. It is especially important for the younger children as taking them on educational visits to see performances can often present challenges (ie. distance and adult ratio) therefore having performances in school alleviates these pressures whilst giving children opportunities they otherwise may not get.

We had ofsted in January and they were really impressed that we had arranged a show just for the children in our Early Years.  They said they are often left out of things, so our example of The Gingerbread Man show was very well received!  The children and staff also loved the show, of course, and we were able to tell the inspectors how you had added some little details from talking with the children (prior to them seeing the show) to make it more personal. We were graded as 'outstanding' for Personal Development, and from the feedback they gave us verbally I know this experience helped with that grading!

This type of work is important in schools so children have access to creative avenues which supports their imaginative skills , speaking and listening skills and their writing skills. It is always valuable for children to learn about the world through different media and from new adults. As a development maybe having a writing task prepared for teachers to use in class- to follow the show which would reinforce what the children have learnt?

Thank you so much for the performance last week, we all really enjoyed it.

We felt it was just the right length for reception - not too long and not too short.
