The Selfish Giant
A celebration of our natural world, friendship and creativity.

The Giant has found the most beautiful natural garden and he just can't trust anyone else to look after something so precious. Outside the giant walls, a child is drawing inspiration from the grey clouds and pigeons to write their poems. When she accidentally discover the Giant's garden, everyone must learn the joys of sharing and being creative together.
Peoplescape Theatre have done it again! It was a sheer privilege to be able to join pupils and teachers at Longsight Community Primary School for The Selfish Giant. What a glorious interpretation of Oscar Wilde’s classic tale brought to life in a brilliant, colourful, thought-provoking participatory show with live music and puppetry. Peoplescape enthralled an audience of children who participated with curiosity and excitement.

The Selfish Giant Performance was incredible! From start to finish, the children (and staff) were taken on an enchanting journey through the garden and the giant's thoughts.
It was fantastic, seeing the creative ways that were used to bring the story to life. The children were smitten with the gnome character and loved the different animals they met in the garden. It was wonderful that all children got to engage so much throughout the performance; the high levels of interaction meant that all children stay engaged throughout. The activity packs were perfect and allowed the children to carry on what they had seen in their own creative writing, following the show.

All of us absolutely loved it!
Again our children who find listening and attention a challenge were enthralled - the combination of music, calm, serene voices and the colourful but low cognitive overload scenery supports all children in being able to engage.
We thought you did a great job of transforming the story into a performance with some great morals
about making friends and looking after nature.
The way you transported us into the giant's garden with enlarged props was magical.
Our children said "it was fabulous" and "that was so fun!"
Thank you for doing what you do and for sharing it with us.

The children in these classes have a range of complex needs including autism, severe learning disability and profound and multiple learning disabilities. Prior to the performances, the team took the time to ensure that each performance was finely tuned to each class so that they were able to access the experience as fully as possible.
I was lucky enough to be able to watch all five of the performances and see the delight on both the adults and children's faces. Each child was able to engage and interact with the visual and musical performance in their own way.
It was a privilege to be able to see so many children explore the props, sensory experiences and music in a totally inclusive environment.
We are yet to find any other theatre experience that can replicate this for our children.
